Safety, health and comfort are extremely important in Veritas’ company philosophy. In February of 2008, Veritas switched to Bata Industrials footwear. “Since we started purchasing the Bata shoes, not only have complaints decreased but also the requests for individual solutions”, according to Elio Pastrello, responsible for safety footwear distribution at Veritas.

Company VeritasVeritas is the largest multi-utility in the Veneto region, Italy, for residents served in the sectors of waste management and the integrated water cycle. The company, located in Venice, supplies services to 29 municipalities and 700,000 residents (over 75% in the province of Venice and 15% in the Veneto).
Veritas provides, with its 2000 employees, services to citizens, businesses and the territory. Services include:

  • Integrated water cycle (drinking water, sanitary sewer, waste water treatment, etc.)
  • Waste management 
  • Selling and distributing energy through subsidiaries 
  • Management of cemetery and funerary services 
  • Management of wholesale markets 
  • Cleaning up polluted sites

The problem
As a result of various complaints from dissatisfied employees and a high rate of absence due to illness, Veritas realised that there was a problem. The most major health problems were caused by footwear which did not breathe well, was too heavy and inflexible, which left wearers with perspiring, painful feet as a result. The company was also incurring high costs in its search for individual solutions. A change was thus necessary (and the high rate of absence had to be reduced as well). To solve the problem, Veritas went in search of alternatives. They issued a tender for bids. Various safety shoe manufacturers responded with suitable proposals. Veritas chose two suppliers for the performance of wear tests. Bata stood out in these tests. “Employees who used to visit the company doctor with foot symptoms in the past had suddenly disappeared.”



The solution
Bata Industrials offered a solution involving four types of safety shoes, which adhere to a variety of safety norms and may be used for different applications within Veritas. “With the Toledo, Colorado, Ottawa and Orlando models, our employees can choose the shoe suitable for them.” In addition, those with extra wide or narrow feet will be able to choose from models in different widths. “Our employees derive more pleasure from their work thanks to Bata."

Sikura
Bata’s dealer in Italy, Sikura, supplies the safety shoes to Veritas.
